Rovinj and Porec
- Rovinj : Rovinj is the most visited city in Istria for sure, due to the holy church Euphemia and narrow streets along old stone houses and Baroque palaces. This city has suffered, like many other cities in Croatia, by the Roman invasions, Byzantine and Venetian.
Local festival: August 12 the night of the st Laurent, all the lights of the city go out to make place for candles and music concert.
When you will leaving Rovinj for Porec, you will liked to stop at LIM channel (Limski kanal), a very nice landscape with a river very quiet and a small restaurant on the roadside offering .......oysters !!!
Porec : You should like this penincule , with charming streets and with houses Romanesque : Gothic and Renaissance and Baroque palaces and especially the Basilica Euphrasian : World Heritage protecting by Unesco. The good idea will be surely to go to the tourist office to seek the guide of monuments in Porec. The basilica was built in the 6th century by Bishop Euphrasius. Note especially the Byzantine mosaics on a gold background of the apse !! You will also find the Museum of the Basilica of course, with other mosaics and statues. You can climb up the bell tower. Not far from Porec, possibility of visiting the cave Baredine caves with 5 132 m deep.
