Sibenik

Sibenik was founded by princes croatia between the eleventh and tenth centuries. Venice takes it in 1412. During the war against the Ottomans, the city resisted for two centuries, until 1683. It then passes under Austrian domination until 1918. The imprint of Venice is still pervasive in medevial portion Sibenik.

In general, we first visited Sibenik in the morning at the market and then end the afternoon at the park of Krka. Or the opposite. Sibenik is 45 minutes from Pakostane.

Begin by visiting the Cathedral St. Jacques, one of the most fascinating in Croatia. It is a UNESCO heritage site. Come in the morning to fully enjoy the sunlight on its Renaissance portal. It was built from 1431 in three stages by three different architects. It was finished in 1505. You will admire the beautiful Renaissance portal and typically 71 sculpted heads representing the ordinary people of the city. Do not miss the richly decorated baptistery.

You will continue by visiting City Hall, right next, and maybe you will try a little chic restaurant inside : the Graska Vjecnica. I love walking the narrow streets lined with stone houses and small gardens. These streets will lead you to Chateau St. Michel. There are countless pictures to make arched windows and doors sets. Arriving at the fortress, unique view of the city, the cathedral, the sea and islands . Don't  miss it !
You go down and quietly pass near the holy church Barbara (Gothic), the church of St. John and the Franciscan convent of St Francis. Before leaving Sibenik, if you still have time, take a walk on the island of Krapanj: away from the crowd, away from the time it was at the time an island with lots of sponge fishermen. Small museum, Franciscan monastery (I love the outdoor courtyard) and lovely beaches, crystal clear waters. Almost deserted beaches on the other side of the island, even in summer. This island has 170 hab. in Winter ! It is reached from the village of Brodarica: boats every hour.
