Krka Waterfalls
Classified as Naturel parc preserve, at 45 minutes from Pakostane, this beautiful park has over 400 m : 8 spectacular waterfalls!
The waters flooded the woods where sediment has accumulated terraced limestone concretions. Ideal destination for a walk during 1/2 day you can finish with a picnic at the edge of the falls. This park is located near the town of Sibenik and 3/4 hour of Pakostane. Feel free to visit their website: http://www.npkrka.hr and see more info .... For thousands of years Krka has obstinately hollowed out its path through rock and has created a remarkable canyon and waterfalls, over 8 waterfalls along the river.
The travertine cascades of this waterfalls are extremely rare in the world. In 1985 its remarkable beauty was recognized and the 46 kilometers of the course of the Krka River were declared national park occupying 111 square kilometers. We love walking on the little bridges that cross the water court, watching hundreds of fish, flora (850 species and 36 water plants) changing every season, and wildlife (18 different species of fish and 10 endemic, 222 species of birds). There are two entrances to the park:

There are two entrances to the park:
- the first entry is immediately on arriving at Krka Lozovac, a large sign indicates the entrance: you park your car in the very big parking, pay the entrance and get on a bus that leave you at the start of the hiking trail. A large sign shows you the way. you will go back on the bus in the same way to return to the parking .
- The second entry: you have to go to Skradin, park the car and wait for the boat that will take you down to the waterfall. I prefer the 1 st solution because you do not have to wait for the boat (either it is the high season and there are too many people and a lot of waiting, whether it is the off season and you wait that a boat arrives). But if you want you can walk to the waterfall of Skradin (footpath), and here it's nice !
Whatever is your choice, you have to go anyway for a ride to Skradin, it is a lovely Croatian village with a nice marina and some nice taverns. On the trails bypassing waterfalls, is a reconstruction of a typical Dalmatian village with a water mill and wool spinning demonstrations, souvenir shops and refreshments. At the bottom of the great waterfall, there is a large rest area with food (hot and sandwich). It's time to swim near the waterfall.
You can also take a boat ride (surcharge) to go up the river and go to the island of Visovac. Adorable monastery with its museum, a guide will accompany you, and you will see pretty garden, peacock and other birds ... look at my blog. You can get around this car park and reach Visovac by road (and boat). There are also the remains of a Roman military camp some kilometers away (the arches of Burnum) and the remains of an amphitheater.
